Open Gardens

Ettiquette

  • DO NOT pick any plant or remove any part of any plant from the garden. Even small seedlings may be earmarked for growing in the garden. If you wish to know the identity of a plant take a person to the plant, not the plant to the person.
  • DO NOT leave litter of any kind in the garden. Ensure that you take away everything you brought with you into the garden.
  • Obey the guidelines set by individual gardens. If conditions of entry forbid children or dogs, then respect the owners request.
  • Control your children if you take them to the garden. While you may enjoy seeing them play such behaviour can spoil the enjoyment for others and may cause damage to the garden.
  • Where dogs are admitted keep them on a lead.
  • Keep to the paths and don’t walk on the gardens.
  • Follow signs and directions.
  • Respect the privacy of owners, DO NOT pry through windows or enter a house without permission.
  • Park your car so that others can enter and leave the parking area without inconvenience. DO NOT park where your car will damage the garden or its surroundings.
  • A garden should be a place for quiet enjoyment. DO NOT create or encourage noise in the garden.
  • Respect the times for visiting. Assume gardens are closed at all other times. Respect this and the privacy of the owners.
  • Confirm all arrangements that you require in advance of visiting a garden.
